If you say 'beer can' in a british accent, it sounds like you're saying 'bacon' in a jamaican accent.

70% of women in London have feces on their hands.

One of the most common ways that germs get spread, is on the bottom of women's handbags. Think about it, how many times a day do you put your bag down on the ground? Or put it down on the floor in the toilets? And then where do you put it when you get home? On your bed.....

Did you know:
If you find a whale on the beach, legally speaking, it's head belongs to the king and it's tail belongs to the queen. (Uk law)

My friend actually did find half a killer whale on the beach this summer.

I would never put my handbag on the ground or on the floor in the toilets!! I'd rather not go to the toilet at all or hang it on my neck!
For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.

Phil, thanks for that. On PBS their Nova science series just had a program on the skeleton they discovered of that fish. Now these tracks, mentioned in your linked article, show the walking fish is 10 or 15 million years older than they thought, interesting.
Nova had some neat graphics that showed recreations of that walking fish and the other aquatic creatures they have found fossil skeletons of from that time. It turns out there was darn good reason for that fish to develop feet. It had to escape from gigantic predators in the water. First you hide in the shallows and behind stuff. Eventually you get eaten or you develop feet.

Osaka university has found evidence of bornavirus in human DNA dating from....40 million years ago. This would be before the emergence of the Homo genus and even back beyond the the time of protosimians to roughly the time primates resembled lemurs.

I don't know about you, but this blows my mind. To think that a virus inserted its DNA so far back and its still being replicated sort of creeps me out!

In the new study, Japanese researchers found copies of the bornavirus N (for nucleoprotein) gene inserted in at least four separate locations in the human genome. Searches of other mammalian genomes also showed that the gene has hitched rides in a wide variety of species for millions of years.

ocphil, there's no reason for your brain to explode really... as little as I can tell on the subject, viruses are not "alive" is traditional sense, they are molecular mechanisms.. a sort of a bridge between living and nonliving stuff. As such, they are intricate part of evolution of anything living today. Sooner or later we had to cross a bridge of our own to move us away from being just pieces of organic chemistry and into biology proper, and viruses likely did some critical job there.

To illustrate the point using a Judy movie:
Joe: Um, I have to tell my folks. Ar.. Are your mother and father living?
Alice: Mhmm, yes... thanks to the viruses. Are yours?
Joe: Yeah. Yeah. They're living. Via viruses too, of course. Do you suppose, maybe, I should write your folks, maybe?
Alice: I suppose so.
All things are real that here are only dreams.

Did you know the EA Madden NFL sports video game when run as a simulation, correctly predicted the Saints Superbowl win and has been right six or the last seven years?

The inventor of the Frisbee died, age 90. I just thought I would throw that out there.

How about a "Eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwhh" inducing bit of info.
Do you know why toilets always have a puddle of water remaining in the bowl after they flush?
It's because of the potentially deadly gases like hydrogen sulfide, etc. that are lurking in the sewer drains just below that protective bit of water in the bowl.
